He expanded the gardens of Versailles, he took to the battlefield, and he built Petit Trianon for his mistress. In his youth King Louis XV was well-loved by most of France, earning the title “Beloved” for his minimal investment in politics. It’s easy to love someone who doesn’t meddle in your personal affairs.
